QUALIFYING ROUND

PRELIMINARY ROUND

A maximum of 20 participants will be invited to Toronto to give a 15 minute public performance.  Performers will be asked to perform:


Aaron Brock “Toccata” (not from memory)

Free choice (time length of approximately 7 minutes)


SEMIFINAL ROUND

A maximum of 10 participants will advance from the preliminary round to the semifinal round.  Each semifinalist will give a 20 minute public performance of the following:


Aaron Brock “Toccata” (not from memory)

2 contrasting movements from a Bach suite

free choice for remaining time

Works played in the preliminary round may NOT be repeated in the semifinal round

Performers will be asked to verbally introduce their selections (maximum 2 minutes)


FINAL CONCERTO ROUND

A maximum of 5 participants will advance from the semifinal round to the final round.  Each finalist will give a public performance of one of the following concertos in full:


Rodrigo:  Fantasia para un gentilhombre

Rodrigo:  Concierto de Aranjuez

Ponce: Concierto del Sur

Castelnuovo-Tedesco:  Concerto No. 1 in D Major

Villa-Lobos:  Concerto for Guitar and Small Orchestra

Brouwer:  Concerto de Toronto (Concerto No.4)
